COMPENSATION POLICY

How we're paid

One posted fee. Every dollar disclosed.

Effective January 1, 2027

How we're paid

Our clients pay us directly, and they are the only ones we answer to. Under our standard compensation structure, that means one flat annual fee and nothing else. We receive no compensation from insurance carriers or vendors in any form, however characterized. The two exceptions, the short transition period when we first take over from your broker and commissions paid on request, are explained below, with the rules that govern them.

Our compensation policy is built to protect our clients, their employees and their families from the insurance and medical industrial complex. Because our clients are the only ones who pay us, we can look at every strategy and solution in the market without a stake in any of them. That lets us give unbiased, professional advice that helps our clients get the most out of every dollar they invest in benefits.

Our fee is the same whether your costs rise or fall, and the same no matter which products you choose.

The fee is fixed for the year and billed monthly.

We tell you next year's fee six months before your renewal.

When we first take over from your broker

When you appoint us as broker of record, we may continue your existing broker's compensation as it stands for a limited transition period. That period ends at your first renewal or after 15 months, whichever comes first. There is no additional invoice during the transition. When it ends, our annual fee takes over.

The rates we receive during the transition are listed, line by line, in the written compensation disclosure you receive before you sign.

No financial ties to insurers or vendors

Health Compass owns no equity in insurers or related vendors, and no insurer or vendor owns equity in Health Compass. We hold no loans or lines of credit from insurers. Either would undermine our ability to give you unbiased, objective advice.

Our duty to you, in writing

Health Compass is contractually bound, in the agreement itself, to act in the company's best interest and to meet the standards of loyalty and prudence that the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) imposes on plan fiduciaries.

Health Compass does not meet ERISA's statutory definition of a plan fiduciary for one deliberate reason: an ERISA fiduciary exercises discretionary control over plan administration or plan assets, and we exercise neither. Every decision rests with the company as the plan sponsor. The duty is in writing, and the discretion stays with the company. Both are by design.

How you can check us

Every client receives our written compensation disclosure before signing, and an updated one whenever anything changes.

Our compensation is re-scored every year against a published scoring method and delivered with each year's fee notice.

Our model is validated by the Validation Institute and backed by its $100,000 Credibility Guarantee.

By exception: commissions, on request

Our annual fee is how we work. Occasionally a client asks to pay us through commissions instead, or a carrier or plan will not allow a fee in place of them. When that happens, we handle it on request, under these rules. We will not accept commissions above these rates:

Line of coverage

Maximum rate

Medical (total medical spend, including stop-loss)

6%

Dental and vision

10%

Life, AD&D and disability

15%

Other voluntary lines (for example critical illness, hospital indemnity)

20%

Anything above these maximums is credited against future invoices or applied to future Health Compass initiatives.

We do not accept bonuses, overrides or contingent payments. Any such amounts paid to us are returned to the company, to the extent allowed by law.
